Imagine you are sitting by the ocean, a light summer breeze is blowing in your face, the sun is slowly setting and you are enjoying a delicious glass of wine. With every sip of wine, you see a handful of rubbish magically disappear from the ocean. Welcome to the world of Ocean Spirit!
At Ocean Spirit, we remove for every bottle of our delicious organic wines 1kg of plastic and rubbish from rivers that flow into the ocean.
How it all began...
We, Sara & Mike from Bern, love travelling, nature and especially the ocean.
We are passionate about discovering new places and unknown landscapes, getting to know foreign cultures, trying out new food, enjoying a good glass of wine and immersing ourselves in the stories of people from all over the world.
Our travels almost always take us past the ocean. The ocean has a fascinating energy for us. A mixture of power, freedom and perfect beauty. We have always felt very happy and somehow connected in or by the ocean. Unfortunately, we have not only experienced inspiring, adventurous, funny and wonderful moments on our travels, but have also witnessed first-hand how nature suffers at the hands of us humans.
...and how it came to 110,000 trees.
In 2020, we decided that we wanted to do our part for an intact nature and launched "Souls Paradise".
We started planting trees for every bottle of our wines sold and were able to plant over 110,000 trees in less than three years, which also generated a media response.
After the first year, we decided to launch a wine for the ocean and started to remove plastic and rubbish from the ocean and rivers. From then on, we had the "Forest hero" and "Ocean hero" editions.
Two impactful travels
On two trips to Asia and the Middle East during our Souls Paradise time, we became increasingly aware of the scale of pollution in the oceans. Dead turtles in mountains of plastic and rubbish, beaches full of plastic, etc. A very sad experience for us as ocean lovers.
In order not to have to watch helplessly as the ocean and its inhabitants sink into plastic and rubbish, we decided to focus 100% on marine conservation at the end of 2023. That's why we renamed "Souls Paradise" to "Ocean Spirit".
Wine in harmony with nature
Our wines, which we produce in harmony with nature, offer ocean lovers the opportunity to actively participate in protecting the ocean. At our main site in Cambodia, we work with Everwave from Germany to remove hundreds of kilograms of plastic and rubbish from rivers every month before all the waste reaches the ocean. Through our work, we also aim to raise awareness of the issue of marine pollution, inspired by the words of Mahatma Gandhi:
"Be yourself the change you wish to see in this world."
From wine production in the vineyards to shipping, we focus on ecological and sustainable solutions. Our biodynamic cultivation of red wine boosts biodiversity and allows us to give something back to nature. Be it by creating nesting sites, supporting bee colonies or planting trees in the vineyards.
With Ocean Spirit, we not only want to offer wonderful wines, but also be a movement for the protection of the oceans and the preservation of their beauty, strength and inspiration.
