Sustainability Days: joint focus on exchange and knowledge transfer to ensure rapid progress in sustainability

The second Sustainability Days will be held on 10 and 11 April in Hall 4 of Messe Basel and will be dedicated to promoting sustainable development for cities, regions, the environment and the economy.

High-profile guests from Basel's business and political circles are expected to attend the two-day event, including Kaspar Sutter, Lukas Engelberger and Esther Keller, Lukas Engelberger and Pierre de Meuron, as well as national and international experts such as Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, André Hoffmann and Lan Marie Nguyen Berg.

Sustainability Days 2024 will combine knowledge transfer, networking and dialogue in the areas of sustainable economy, smart city and environmental technology in a single format. These key areas are the basis for a total of seven focus topics, which are reflected both at the congress and in the exhibition: Economy, Energy, Environment, Governance, Health, Infrastructure and Buildings and Mobility.

In addition to the impressive exhibition with some 60 leading suppliers presenting innovations, products, services and solutions, the congress programme will feature over 120 speakers. The Sustainability Days 2024 will be opened with a welcoming speech by Kaspar Sutter (Member of the Cantonal Government of Basel-Stadt), followed by André Hoffmann (Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd). Lukas Engelberger (Cantonal Councillor of the Canton of Basel-Stadt) will take part in the "Global Health" panel together with Daniel Koch (known as Mister Corona and Head of the Communicable Diseases Division at the Swiss Federal Office of Energy until 2020). Esther Keller is another representative of the Basel government. At the event on "Urban development and sustainable water management solutions", the government councillor will present approaches to green urban development. Further national and international experts will take part in the Sustainability Days 2024 and present insights into current developments, research, trends and examples of best practice on the main topics.

For example, Pierre de Meuron (founding partner of Herzog & de Meuron) and Daniel Wiener (President of the Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation) will discuss the overall digital logistics system Cargo sous terrain (CST), which will bring together major Swiss freight transport centres from 20231. The speakers Lan Marie Nguyen Berg (member of the Green Party from Norway) and Anna König Jerlmyr (former mayor of Stockholm) will provide insights and perspectives on sustainability from the fields of government, politics and consulting as well as sustainable urban transformation. During the CEO panel, Noah Heynen (CEO Helion Energy AG), Roland Lötscher (CEO Mobility Genossenschaft), Cédric Christmann (CEO Primeo Energie) and Jürg Reichert (CEO Energiedienst Holding AG) will discuss strategies for a sustainable future with a focus on transformation, energy and mobility.

During the networking dinner on the evening of 10 April 2024, Prof. Ernst Ulrich Weizsäcker will share his expertise and present innovative approaches for a sustainable future.  He is regarded as one of the pioneers of sustainability and has been a source of ideas for the environmental movement in Germany for many years. The multi-award-winning scientist and long-standing Co-President of the Club of Rome is committed to climate protection.
