What really matters in developments in the field of Smart City and Sustainability and what contribution local energy companies can make - an independent qualitative study on the positioning of Swiss cities and their energy suppliers.
Energy supply companies and city administrations are in the midst of the journey towards the federal government's required climate neutrality by 2050. In this context, the topics of sustainability and smart city both play an equally important role. In the ecosystem of the Swiss energy industry, energy suppliers and city administrations are jointly facing the challenge of developing goals for sustainable and smart cities and implementing them together. The goals are formulated. But the path to them requires a good implementable plan, resources, coordination, and often joint decision-making.
With the question "What really matters in developments in the field of Smart City and Sustainability and what contribution local energy companies can make!" nine Swiss cities in the German-speaking area were asked how they are currently positioned in terms of implementing the two major strategic developments. Representatives of the city administration and the corresponding energy supplier participated in each case. As a result, the biggest success factors and levers for impact-oriented cooperation in the municipal ecosystem for implementing developments in the areas of Smart City and Sustainability were identified.
